VOLLEYBALL

Volleyball in schools focuses on teaching fundamental skills—serving, passing (volley/forearm), setting, and spiking—combined with basic rules like three-hits-per-side, rally scoring to 25, and clockwise rotation. PE curriculum emphasizes team coordination, defensive digging, and movement, typically in a 6v6 format, to improve physical literacy.

KABADI

Kabaddi is a team sport involving seven players per side, where a “raider” enters the opposing half to tag defenders and return while chanting “kabaddi” on a single breath. Points are scored by tagging defenders, while defense scores by tackling the raider within 30 seconds.

THROWBALL

Throwball is a popular, non-contact, 7-a-side school team sport in India, similar to volleyball but played by catching and throwing the ball rather than hitting it. Played on a court with a 2.2–2.3m net, teams aim to throw the ball over the net to land within the opponent’s court within 3 seconds. It promotes fitness, coordination, and teamwork

HANDBALL

Handball in schools focuses on promoting fun, physical activity, and teamwork through adapted, easy-to-learn rules, often using smaller courts and softer balls. It emphasizes basic skills like passing, catching, dribbling, and shooting, designed for ages 5-17 to foster lifelong participation.

KHO-KHO

Kho Kho is a fast-paced traditional Indian tag sport ideal for schools, promoting speed, agility, and teamwork. Played between two teams of 12 (9 on court), one team chases while the other defends in 7-minute innings. It requires minimal equipment, making it an accessible, high-energy activity for physical education.

FOOTBALL

Football in schools, exemplified by the FIFA Football for Schools program and The FA Schools Portal, integrates soccer with education to promote physical health, teamwork, and life skills. These programs use app-based, age-appropriate, and inclusive football sessions to enhance social skills, confidence, and academic engagement.

TENNIKOT

Tennikoit (Ring Tennis) is an economical, fast-paced, and highly accessible net sport for schools, requiring only a rubber ring, a court , and a 1.8m net. It improves students’ hand-eye coordination, agility, and motor skills. It is ideal for PE curricula, promoting teamwork and engagement, even for students less active in traditional sports.

CARROM

Carrom is a popular indoor strategy game used in schools to develop precision, concentration, and fine motor skills in students. Played on a square wooden board with 19 pieces (9 white, 9 black, 1 red queen) and a striker, it promotes teamwork and patience through structured, competitive play. The game offers significant cognitive benefits, enhancing geometry concepts and strategic planning.

CHESS

Chess in school programs are designed to enhance critical thinking, concentration, and social-emotional skills in students by integrating chess into the curriculum or as an extracurricular activity. Structured curriculums often include lessons on history, rules, tactics, and sportsmanship. The focus is on educational development, not just competition.
